Take Me to the Muddy Water!

Water is essential to our well-being and very existence in the physical realm. In a spiritual context, water is a cleansing and healing agent. Christian converts are either baptized in or sprinkled with holy water. In the Bible, there’s a story about a “crippled man” who sat by the Pool of Bethesda each day, waiting for the angels to “trouble” the water hoping someone would move out of the way and dip him in so that he might be healed. The Islamic faith speaks of water as a symbol of Allah’s mercy and benevolence. Offering water at a Buddhist shrine shows one’s desire to cultivate virtues of calmness, clarity, and purity. So what happens when we muddy the waters? Does the power decrease? Will it still cleanse us? Does it maintain the same healing properties? Great questions, my friends. My answer – It all depends upon the agent that was added to make it muddy.

Muddy water is a blend of diatomaceous earth (DE) and water. When the white, powdery DE is added to the crystal clear water, it becomes muddy and no longer tastes pure. Don’t let the visual or the taste fool you. This muddy looking chalky tasting beverage can change your healing game. It’s not a miracle cure, yet you may want to give the muddy water a try. I’ll tell you a little more about this great ally.

DE is composed of 85% silica and a few other trace minerals like calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, iron, phosphorous, and selenium. Silica is an instrumental part of human ligaments, cartilage, and musculature. This amazing mineral is missing in our food supply these days so natural supplementation is a good idea. The most easy and affordable way to get it is to mix 1-3 tablespoons of DE with purified or distilled water and drink up.

Here are a few health benefits of muddy water.

  • Growing hair in persistent bald spots (even helps with male pattern baldness and alopecia in many cases).
  • Growing strong, healthy hair and nails.
  • Repairing muscles and bones.
  • Balancing cholesterol levels.
  • “Killing” excessive candida and some parasites in your digestive tract causing yeast infections, thrush, brain fog, inability to focus, eczema, allergies, itching, and many digestive issues to say “bye-bye.”
  • Removing heavy metals and toxins from your body with the assistance of chlorella, red clover, and/or cilantro.

Of course, eating clean is a must if you want to see optimal benefits. Otherwise, you’re just putting old wine in new wine skins. Oh yeah. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Do not consume DE if you are experiencing kidney issues.
  • Only consume food grade DE.
  • Do not stand in the cloudy powdery residue in the air when you add it to the water. Once it settles, then mix it. Inhaling DE powder can be harmful to your lungs. Look at it under a microscope and see just how sharp the silica can be.
  • Start with one tablespoon to see how your body responds.
  • Stop consuming DE immediately if you experience stomach pains.
  • Drink extra water when consuming DE and be sure to eat fibrous food to prevent constipation.
  • DE alone will not get rid of every single parasite in your digestive system and bloodstream. So, consider black walnut powder, wild oregano oil, cloves, and wormwood as a companions if you’re cleansing. Different substances are required to get rid of parasites at different stages of growth.
  • DE alone will not get rid of all forms of eczema, allergies, or itching. Adding olive leaf infusions or extracts can be helpful.
  • Remember, this information is for educational purposes only and doesn’t replace the advice of a medical doctor.

I’d love to hear about your experiences with the muddy water. Feel free to sing your favorite Negro spiritual when preparing the drink. Songs like Take Me To the Water. If you’ve been to any baptism service, you have probably heard that song a million times – Take me to the water. Take me to the water. Take me to the water. To be baptized. There are so many verses. And if you have a really creative pastor, he/she might make up verses if there are a large number of people to be baptized. Watch out now! I just might make a video to show you just how well I know this song. Just kidding. I won’t torture you like that. Just have some muddy water and let me know what you experience after a week of faithful consumption. Take me to the muddy water!

Love and light!

Candida Gone Wild

candida-resultsCandida is a fungus and a form of yeast that lives inside our mouths and intestines in small quantities. It’s sole purpose is to aid with digestion and nutrient absorption.  When we  over indulge in refined sugar, alcohol, fermented foods, live stressful lives or take oral contraceptives or antibiotics, we open the door for the tiny amount of candida to multiply. Once multiplied, your body will let the candida grow unchecked, resulting in yeast overgrowth. This overgrowth takes over the gut and lives off of sugar. Since they are living organisms, they can send signals to your brain when they need to be fed, which is why many of us crave sugar. The overgrown yeast produces metabolites, which can lead to leaky gut syndrome, allowing undigested food particles, chemicals and other substances to get into the blood. As a result, the body’s ability to properly digest food or expel toxins is adversely impacted. Those who suffer from candida overgrowth experience one of more of the following symptoms.

  • Athlete’s feet
  • Toenail infections
  • Skin issues such as eczema, psoriasis, rashes, and hives
  • Bloating, constipation, and diarrhea
  • Autoimmune disease such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ulcerative colitis, Lupus, Psoriasis, Scleroderma or Multiple sclerosis
  • Difficulty concentrating, poor memory, lack of focus, ADD, ADHD and brain fog
  • Irritability, mood swings, anxiety, or depression
  • Recurring vaginal or urinary tract infections
  • Rectal or vaginal issues
  • White thrush or red bumps on the male penis
  • Mild – severe food or seasonal allergies
  • Itchy ears
  • Intense cravings for sugar and refined carbohydrates cravings
  • Tired and worn down feeling
  • White film on tongue or thrush

In fact, in some cases of cancer, physicians have determined that candida is the true culprit. That’s why it’s important to keep it in check.

To determine whether or not your candida levels are out of balance, you can perform a test at home. First thing in the morning, spit into a clear glass of water. If the saliva floats to the top, your candida levels are acceptable. If within 15 minutes, you see think projections extending downward into the water or the saliva is cloudy and sinks to the bottom of the glass, you probably have a candida imbalance in your body.

So, how do you get this condition under control? Focus on restoring the balance in your gut flora by consuming foods that don’t feed the excess candida. There are a myriad of essential oils and herbs that can expedite this process. If you would like to learn more, feel free to reach out and set up an initial consultation with me.

No more Cramps, Bloating, and Migraines

Give thanks.

How many of you suffer from terrible cramps, bloating, weight gain, and/or migraines during your moon time? I too used to be a part of this camp. I would barricade myself in my room with lots of chocolate, peanut butter, and salty potato chips, watching sad and depressing movies about love gone wrong. My husband and my oldest son steered clear or they knew I’d let loose and they would have to deal with the Wrath of a Crazed Mama. So, I wallowed in my bloodiness, popping Pamprin, Midol, and Advil. Oh yeah, can’t forget that I was taking synthetic birth control pills back then to regulate my cycle, too. All the while, cursing God for cursing Eve and dying to get to Heaven just to smack her in the face for eating that daggone forbidden fruit, knowing she wasn’t even hungry. Yes, this was my sick and pathetic life. As much as I despise who I was back then, I honor those experiences as I continue to transform into a woman who embraces all things feminine. I no longer subscribe to biblical Bru Ha Ha written by men who could never understand or even value the very essence of womanhood. Now that I understand who I am and what I’m made of, I’m free to run, free to dance, free to worship, and do all that with no cramps, bloating, migraine, or attitude. My husband is probably clapping if he’s reading this.

What’s my secret? Well,  I have four. Clean eating, body movement, herbal infusions, and intimacy.

Clean Eating

Clean eating is one sure-fire way to either get rid of menstrual cramps or reduce their intensity. It’s a good idea to eliminate or extremely reduce your intake of foods that clog up the small intestines, make your body produce excessive mucous to digest, or cause bloating/inflammation. Examples of those foods include breads and sweets made with yeast or glutenous grains such as wheat, barley, or rye, meat (especially the sacred cow), processed foods, dairy products, table salt, and refined sugar (including high fructose corn syrup). I suggest eating out of your own kitchen as much as possible. When you prepare food at home, you know what ingredients are in it.

Your goal is to have two-three bowel movements a day with frequent urination (let it flow, mamas). It’s also key to drink an ample amount of spring water. For an extra boost of vitamin C and constipation relief, add lots of lemon juice to that water. To learn more, check out my blog post entitled Overcoming Chronic Constipation.

Body Movement

In addition to keeping the digestive tract cleansed, it’s a good idea to get in at least 30 minutes of movement each day. I also suggest spontaneous dancing or walking. Belly dancing is great during moon time, too. Another great option is yoga full of twists and turns to help detox your body of all the yucky stuff that needs to come out. You can do all of this in the comfort of your own home. You Tube videos are free and there are some great options out there. The extra movement will help to boost your endorphin release which will help fight against that yucky feeling many of us have experienced during moon time.

My next secret weapon is herbs. I drink herbal infusions almost every day. They are full of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay nourished and they have tons of medicinal properties. My favorite herbs for womb health are nettles, oat straw, and red raspberry leaf.

The last secret weapon is intimacy – personal intimacy and intimacy with your spouse or significant other. In fact, I probably should have listed this one first. Here’s the deal. I steal away from everything around me even if it’s just for fifteen minutes to honor my moon time to rest, meditation, and do personal rituals. I believe the power than emanates from a menstruating women enhances her ability to create. You’ll be amazed at what you can do. Once you’ve spent that time alone, don’t be afraid to engage in intimacy with your spouse or significant other. Let your lover massage you, kiss you, and love on you while you sit back and take it all in. I hear there’s magical power when couples join together on the fourth day. I dare you to try it.

To sum up my secrets for getting rid of cramps, bloating, and migraines, eat clean, move your body, drink herbal infusions, and get intimate. Pretty simple solutions that won’t cost you a whole bunch of money. In fact, you’ll save money because you won’t need the Midol, Advil, and Pamprin AND you won’t be eating processed or fast foods. I look forward to hearing your success stories about your moon time.

Love and light.

Lies Women Tell Their Daughters

Give thanks.

Many of us grew up hearing all kinds of information about what we should and shouldn’t do on our moon cycles. Just like any transference of knowledge, we received some solid advice AND some wrong information. I asked my Facebook friends to post what they were told as a child when they were learning to take care of themselves during their moon cycle. Here’s a compilation of the information they shared.

  1. Don’t tell anyone you’re on your cycle. (Not sure what the logic was behind this one)
  2. Don’t take a bath because menstrual blood is unclean and you don’t want to soak in it.
  3. Don’t take a bath or the blood won’t come out and it will pollute your body.
  4. Don’t eat pineapples, citrus, or tomatoes because they’re all too acidic during this time of the month.
  5. Don’t walk barefoot or wash your hair because you’ll get a cold in your womb.
  6. Don’t use a tampon if you’re a virgin because you’ll loose your virginity.
  7. Don’t cook anything because you will contaminate the food.
  8. Don’t go swimming, especially in the ocean.
  9. Don’t hold a baby. (I never did get a clear explanation for this one)
  10. Don’t ever have sex during that time of the month.

My favorite item on the list is #7, don’t cook anything because you’ll contaminate the food. We all know the story of some man being “whipped” by a woman who put her menstural blood in the spaghetti, right? Of course, I researched the origin and found out that in ancient times, menstural blood was revered and folks perceived it possessed a magical quality. For this reason, women would collect the blood and feed their crops with it. In fact, some would even put it in their food and this was actually a welcomed experience. It wasn’t until the witch trails and like events that demonized anything woman that these practices became taboo. Isn’t it interesting how time and the presiding rule of the culture changes everything.

On another note, I’d love to hear what you were told or what you think about this list so feel free to add a comment. I’d also love to hear if you followed these things and if so, how that worked out for you. I look forward to hearing your funny stories and your truths.

Hot Sex! Gotta Have It!

male and female

Give thanks.

Today, I’ve been on the subject of sex. Not just any kind of sex. Hot sex. Sacred sex. Tantalizing sex. Yeah, sex. This word seems to invoke a sense of discomfort in some while invoking sensual arousal in others. In western society, many of us base our sexuality on religion, patriarchy, and misogyny. Add womb trauma, abuse, sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies (even in marriages and committed relationships) to the ingredient list and you have a recipe for disaster.

The wombologist in me cries out and desires to open up wombs all over the world so that women can take their rightful place in society. Walking in power, love, and strength. When I close my eyes, I see beautiful warrior queens, with high self-esteem, class, and distinction. Women who aren’t afraid to be sexually sensual, not worrying about what others say. A place where we embrace our beauty, flaunt it, and be appreciated for who we are. So, how do we get there? I suggest a simplistic three-prong plan.

1.) Know your womb’s purpose

2.) Heal from womb trauma, abuse, and toxicity

3.) Go within for the answers to life’s complicated questions

Let’s start with our womb’s purpose. The womb is the center of a woman’s body. The legs are below and the torso is above. Our spiritual essence flows from within our wombs in and out to both directions. This is where we connect with men to create life. In that same sacred space, we connect with our divine selves and create witty inventions and new ideas. Not only do we create, we have the intuitive power to bring those things to life. From a metaphysical perspective, the energy meridians reveal the womb as a part of the sacral chakra. Emotional and sensual energies flow through this heavenly place where we experience desire, intimacy, pleasure, and intense feelings. When our womb’s are out of balance, we either block healing or continually search for it in all the wrong places. As a result, we may attract the wrong energy in our lives which can result in distractions that cause us to not walk in our destiny. When we know our womb’s purpose, we are balanced and can enjoy the sensuality of life without interference.

How do we heal from womb trauma? There are many paths and you have to go within to know what’s right for you. I suggest a womb detox that cleanses us from both a spiritual and physical perspective. The cleansing of your own issues and those inherited through generational curses. Once you are cleansed, you can have that HOT SEX I talked about at the beginning of this post.

Once you’ve detoxed your womb (AKA yoni), you can go within for answers to life’s complicated questions. The divine is within however, we’ve been trained to seek the answers from the outside. As a result, we tend to adopt solutions that aren’t specific to meet our needs and continue to walk around with toxic wombs. I suggest meditation as a spiritual practice to help you go within. Meditation will help you focus and clear your mind to hear from the divine creator within. No matter what religion you practice (or don’t), I challenge you to go within.

Over the next week, I encourage you to implement this three-prong plan in your life. Know your womb’s purpose. Heal from womb trauma, toxicity, and abuse. Then, go within for the answers for life’s complicated questions. I’d love to hear about your experiences so feel free to contact me. I’m sending a power surge of sensual energy to help you start your journey. And remember, not only will this set you free spiritually, physically, and emotionally, you’ll have the most amazing, HOT SEX you’ve ever experienced in your life. Ase’!

Ovarian Cysts

What are ovarian cysts?

Ovarian cysts are tumors or fluid or tissue filled sacs that develop on the surface of one or both ovaries. They are typically the size of a walnut or almond. Cysts are either functional or pathological in nature, with the pathological cysts being more of a detriment to overall health. Here are a few descriptions and some photos.

  • Follicular – Most common type of functional cyst. The ovarian follicle produces a fluid to protect a growing egg. When the egg is released, the follicle should burst, releasing the fluid, then shrink back to it’s normal size. If the follicle doesn’t release the egg or doesn’t release the fluid and shrink after releasing the egg, it can becoming a follicular ovarian cyst. Typically, only one of these cyst appears at any one time and thanks to mother nature, goes away within a few weeks without interference. The following picture comes from Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research.

  • Luteal  – Least common type of functional cyst. After an egg has been released it leaves tissue behind called the corpus luteum. If this tissue fills with blood, a luteal cyst develops. Thanks to mother nature, this cyst typically goes away within a few months. There is a danger in the egg rupturing before then which could cause sudden pain and internal bleeding. The following picture comes from Humpath.com.

  • Dermoid cysts – Most common type of pathological cyst for women under 30 years of age and also know as cystic teratomas, which means monster tumor (usually benign). This type of cyst is formed from the cells that make eggs. They typically contain hair, skin, bone, other tissues, and in some cases, even teeth. Doctors suggest that these cysts need to be removed surgically. The following picture came from Hyperalimentation.blogspot.com.

  • Cystadenomas – Most common type of pathological cyst for women 40 years of age and older. these ovarian cysts develop from cells that cover the outer part of the ovary. Some are filled with a thick, mucous substance, while others contain a watery liquid. Rather than growing inside the ovary itself, cystadenomas are usually attached to an ovary by a stalk. Since they exist outside the ovary, they have the potential to grow to an extremely large size. These cysts are typically benign and doctors recommend that they are removed surgically. The following picture came from Humpath.com.

The information about the various types of cysts came from a myriad of sources, including WebMD.com and eMedicinehealth.com.

Symptoms Depending upon the type, most women who suffer from ovarian cysts don’t display any symptoms, however, if the cysts grows larger, she might experience:

  • lower abdominal and pelvic pain or feeling or excessive pressure
  • vaginal or pelvic pain during or after intercourse
  • pelvic pain during menstrual cycle felt in the lower back
  • pain or pressure with urination (bladder) or bowel movements (rectum)
  • problems fully emptying the bladder
  • bloating, swelling, or heaviness of abdomen
  • irregular menstrual cycle
  • naseau or vomiting
  • vaginal blood spotting
  • infertility
  • breast tenderness
  • changes in the way breasts grow
  • changes in the way hair grows, especially if increased facial hair similar to a male pattern
  • fever
  • weak, dizziness, or fainting
  • high or low blood pressure unrelated to medication or other medical conditions
  • unexplained weight loss
  • excessive thirst or urination
  • noticeable pelvic or abdominal mass

It’s important not to self-diagnosis an ovarian cysts as the symptoms are similar to those experienced with endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, etopic pregnancy, normal pregnancy, or ovarian cancer. If the ovarian cysts ruptures, the symptoms can mirror those related to appendicitis or diverticulitus.

  • Eliminate sugar, especially refined sugar, from your diet.
  • Limit the consumption of grains and excess protein, which turns into sugar.
  • Have at least one baby before the age of 30 and breastfeed your baby.
  • Don’t smoke and avoid second hand smoke.
  • If experiencing breast cancer, know that Tamoxifen (Soltamox) therapy blocks the action of estrogen which can contribute to ovarian cysts.
  • Avoid infertility treatment with gonadotropin medications.
  • Get hypothyroidism (thyroid gland doesn’t make enough of the thyroid hormone) in check.
  • Ensure that your body is able to produce the hormone we know as vitamin D3 – sunlight and sleep during the hours of 10pm-4am are the best sources.

The information about the symptoms and prevention came from a variety of sources, including my experience as a Master Herbalist and Health Coach, WebMD.com, and eMedicinehealth.com.

While there is no miracle herb or process to dissolve cysts, there are some healing modalities that have worked for others in the past. This work takes some focus and about three-six months to accomplish. Start with clean eating (no sugar, no processed food, no bread, no beef, no pork, and make sure your other meat and fish are from clean sources), meditation, and herbal infusions of chapparal and vitex.

First Moon Celebrations

Give thanks.

Do you remember your first moon? Maybe it was all you thought it would be or maybe it a nightmare. No matter what the experience may have been, I’m willing to bet that most of you didn’t have a celebration or any training (outside of etiquette classes or a debutante ball, etc.) related to it. In our culture, we celebrate birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and events of that nature, but rarely do we celebrate first moons.

Since I am the mother of three boys, I’ve discussed their coming of age celebrations with their father, yet I felt it was important for my nieces and cousins to have first moon celebrations. In fact, I’ve already started planning. I was surfing the web when I happened upon the party favors in the picture above. These awesome favors are sold by Menarche Parties R Us. In addition to favors, they sell educational games to play at first moon celebrations and a few other products. While I found this site to be refreshing, I wondered how my niece’s/cousin’s girlfriends and their mothers would  handle receiving this invitation in the mail. Hmmmmm. The fact that I had to even ponder on this question let me know that we have some work to do in our society.

So, where do we start? I’d like to pose that idea that we consider building traditions in our families that help us get to the point where receiving an invitation like the one above in the mail is common place and something we look forward to. Before we can do this, we have to educate ourselves and other elders who are raising the next generation of wonderful women. Here are a few resources to help us start. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Love and light.

Natural Birth Control Options

Photo on 8-29-13 at 11.14 PM #2

Give thanks.

People have been asking me about natural birth control options which is my cue to make a video and write a blog post. I will share the dangers of of synthetic birth control, the dangers of condoms and spermicide, and natural birth control options.

Synthetic Birth Control

Synthetic birth control has been touted as the best thing since sliced bread. Because of these tiny little pills, patches, and shots, women have been able to have at least 98% control over whether or not they have children, families have been able to plan, and cycles gone wild have been tamed. Then years later, many of these same women suffer from uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, blood clots, uterine/cervical/ovarian cancer, mood swings, early onset of menopause (peri-menopause), and many other issues. Now, of course, the mainstream medical community may not agree with my assessment. While I’m not a doctor, I have common sense and can put two and two together. Read the rest of this post at your own risk; the risk of opening your eyes to what we’ve been lied to about for so many years.

Condoms and Spermicide

What about condoms? Many women have bad reactions to them and most vegan women are opposed to lambskin (which tend to not be as reliable). Also, the spermicide and lube associated with many of them are deadly. These products can lead to many of the conditions I listed above. I have strong personal opinions about this that I will not include in this post. Keep in mind, each person has free will to do as they please.

Natural Birth Control Options

There are some natural options to prevent conception; body knowledge, black (cumin) seed oil, lemon juice and coconut oil suppositories and/or lube, withdrawal method, and injaculation. These are just a few options that we’ll explore in this post. There are many others that people use as well.

1. Body Knowledge – One of our ovaries releases an egg approximately two weeks after the first day of your moon time. Women who are in tune with their body can feel this. Others track it via a calendar and/or temperature changes. The body temperature increases 1/2 – 1 degree during ovulation. Here’s the key. That eggs lives for about 24 hours. Sperm lives in the vagina for about 72 so if you had sex 2-3 days BEFORE ovulation, there’s still a possibility that you could get pregnant. I would plan my sexual activity around that 5-7 day timeframe to be safe. In the meantime, other options can help.

2. Black (Cumin) Seed Oil – 1 tablespoon in the AM and 1 tablespoon in the PM. Try to make it the same times each day. For breastfeeding mothers, it will increase your milk flow so be ready. For those who promote the idea that women aren’t supposed to bleed at moon time, this oil might shock them since it promotes bleeding at moon time. Not excessive, just normal. Women will also find that this oil is beneficial in many other ways.

3. Lemon juice and coconut oil suppositories or lube: Lemon juice creates a bank against sperm because it creates an acidic environment that makes the vagina not hospitable to it, thus preventing conception. I squeeze the juice of a full lemon into 1 cup of coconut oil. I refrigerate the mixture in the summer time since it melts so easily. You can just leave it this way to use as a lube. Some people like to form the mixture into small pestiles with their fingers and wrap them in the product of their choice. It’s totally up to you.

4. Withdrawal method: Pull out. Most sperm isn’t all that good for the vagina anyway. Let me clarify that statement. Sperm with no toxins poses no issues. Depending upon the man’s lifestyle and eating habits, though, his sperm could be full of toxins.

5. Injaculation: Study the Tao to learn more about this method that will rejuvenate and invigorate men in a manner beyond their wildest dreams. It takes practice, though.

Whichever natural birth control option you use, I encourage you to be consistent. Just think about how many women conceived taking the pill because she wasn’t consistent. It’s even more important to be consistent with the natural options.

Love and light.
