10 Ways to Care for You

IMG_1387

1. Schedule “Me Time.”

2. Practice walking meditation.

3. Get a professional massage and use self massage tools in between visits.

4. Journal.

5. Don’t make commitments to others out of guilt.

6. Eat clean at least 90% of the time.

7. Exercise. Walking, lifting weights, dancing, yoga (ashtanga, vinyasa, Bikram, or Kemetic) and Pilates are great choices. If you can’t do anything listed here, simply stretch daily.

8. Practice yoga (Hatha, Kundalini or Yin), Qi Gong, or Tai Chi.

9. Get some energy work (e.g. Reiki or Joh Rei). It works best after a massage, stretching, or yoga session.

10. Go to counseling. Talk therapy works wonders. Especially when the counselor incorporates metaphysical practices.

I’d love to hear what you do to take care of yourself in the Comments section.

It’s Time for a Liquid Fast

Sherrice Eating Clean

Liquid fasting is one of the best ways to reset your body and reverse the state of disease so that you’re able to hear from the great I Am within you.

ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS

Personally, I don’t fast to lose weight. Of course, depending upon how you do it, that could be a benefit. To lose weight on the liquid fast, stick mostly to the sea moss and G Juice drinks. To not lose weight on the liquid fast, the squash and lentil soups are your friends. Also nut butter and banana smoothies.

SAMPLE REGIMEN

People asked for a sample liquid fast regimen. I say don’t follow a template, be free. I know that some are just starting though so I’m willing to share some ideas. As you make it your own, you’ll consume only what you need and you’ll get more nutrients than ever before.

Upon waking
16 oz Lemon water and 8 oz bitter herbal infusion or G Juice

Breakfast
16-32 oz juice or smoothie and 8 oz water

Mid-morning Snack
16-32 oz sea moss water or smoothie or nut milk and 8 oz water

Lunch
Butternut squash soup or a green smoothie and 8 oz water

Mid afternoon snack
16-32 oz G Juice and 8 oz water

Dinner
Creamy lentil soup, green juice, and 8 oz water

Nightcap
Chamomile or catnip infusion

LIQUID FAST RECIPES

When it comes to a liquid fast, the recipe options are limitless. To get you started, here are a few recipes.

Sea moss gel

  • Rinse one handful of wild harvested sea moss with distilled water to remove sand and sediment.
  • Add sea moss gel to a bowl and cover it with distilled water.
  • Let it sit overnight.
  • Drain the water from the sea moss.
  • Cut the sea moss into small strips to avoid the longer strips wrapping around blender blades.
  • Put it in a blender and add 16 oz of distilled water.
  • Blend until smooth like gel.
  • Put it a glass mason jar and store in the refrigerator.

Sea moss water

Blend 1 tablespoon sea moss gel and 8 oz distilled water

Sea moss smoothie

Blend 1 tablespoon sea moss gel, 1 handful hemp seeds, 2 pitted medjool dates, and 8 oz distilled water. Add a little more water if too thick.

Fresh vegetable and/or juice and smoothies

Here’s a link to a few green juice recipes – Green Supreme Juice or Green Zinger Juice.

Dairy Free Milk

Here’s a link to my dairy free milk recipe – Dairy Free Milk.

G-Juice

Here’s a link to my recipe for G-Juice – G-Juice Recipe.

Herbal infusions (some call this tea. Tea is a different plant than herbs)
* Boil 1 quart of spring or filtered water in a tea kettle.
* Remove the kettle of hot water from the heat.
* Add 1 ounce or so of the single herb of your choice in a large mason jar (1 quart size).
* Add stevia or raw honey to taste (the infusion is more beneficial with no sweetener).
* Pour the hot water in the jar to the point of almost overflowing.
* Place the cap on the jar.
* Allow it to sit undisturbed for the allotted amount of time.
– Roots/Bark: 8 hours
– Leaves: 4 hours
– Flowers: 2 hours
– Seeds/berries: 30 minutes
* For a super charge, let it bake in the sun on a hot sunny day.
* Strain the mixture to separate the herbs from the liquid.
* With clean hands, squeeze the herbs to get the medicinal juice into your infusion.
* Place it in the refrigerator if you prefer it cold. It can last up to three days, if refrigerated.
* Sip on the infusion throughout the day.

WARNING: Herbal infusions can cause adverse reactions if you are taking prescription medication. Also, it’s a good idea to research the herbs you’re using to determine whether or not they should be taken on an empty stomach.

Squash Soup

  • Cut away the squash covering and remove the seeds.
  • Cut a squash into cubes.
  • Bake in the oven on 375 for 30 minutes or until soft enough to blend.
  • Blend with 1/2 cup fresh dairy free milk.
  • For a sweet blend, add some allspice, a few pitted dates or a tablespoon or so of raw agave syrup.
  • For a savory blend, add pink salt and seasonings of choice like cumin or chili powder.

Vegetable Broth

  • Add distilled water to a crockpot pot until it’s half full.
  • Add a red onion, two handfuls kale greens, one bell pepper, a few diced shallots, and other vegetable of choice.
  • Put on low setting for six – eight hours.
  • Drain broth and add pink salt and cumin to taste.
If you don’t want to waste the veggies, blend them into a soup and add your favorite seasonings.

Butterfly Wisdom

Butterfly Wisdom

I just love butterflies. This beautiful flying insect is the quintessential representation of freedom, intelligence, and mysticism. Whenever a see a butterfly, no matter what’s going on in my life at that moment, I smile and it’s all better.

Let’s observe the symbiotic relationship of two specific butterflies to toxic plants and predators – the Monarch and Pipevine Swallowtail. Blessed with digestive enzymes customized to their specific needs, these butterflies can consume toxic plants without getting sick or dying so that they are undesirable to those who prey upon them. The Viceroy butterfly doesn’t have this capability however it can change it’s color to match the Monarch’s to trick the predators who try to eat them. The Red-Spotted Purple butterfly has this same ability however it mimics the Pipevine Swallowtail. Isn’t nature brilliant? Who knew something so small could be so smart?

If the butterfly creator is the same as the human creator, I wonder what food we consume that attracts or detracts certain people into our lives. What energy are we emitting through our perspectives? What atmosphere are we creating in our homes and work spaces? When generational love or bondage is reflected in our auras? All of these aspects of our lives affect who comes, who goes, and who stays. I encourage you to kick back with a cup of hot, steamy, lemon balm tea and reflect on what you and these butterflies have in common.

Love and light!

Super Sleep

Super Hero Sleep

As many of you know, I believe there is power in sleep and that power goes far beyond the scientific documentation of the physical benefits.  It’s so powerful that militaries use sleep deprivation as a form of torture for prisoners of war. It’s one of the most heinous forms of torture because it’s effects can result in immune system breakdowns, heart defects, memory loss, confusion, hallucinations, inability to make decisions, psychosis, aches and pains, growth suppression, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. As healers, we’re so quick to suggest dietary changes, herbs and other natural remedies for maladies yet we often forget about good old fashioned sleep.

What is Sleep?
According to Webster’s dictionary, sleep is a condition of body and mind such as that which typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended.

Why do we need it?
When we are asleep, our bodies use nutrients (we’ve either fed it or stimulated it to produce) to regenerate. During sleeping hours, most of the body is at total rest. The parts that aren’t are operating at a reduced capacity. With no energy going out for walking, talking, exercising, working, etc., our bodies direct all of that energy to healing.

Sleep isn’t just for healing the body. It’s also for healing the mind. While we sleep we dream. Dreams are the minds way of sorting through the thoughts and experiences of the day. Many people don’t realize they are dreaming because they haven’t trained themselves in dream recall. According to Medical News Today, the average person has 3-6 dreams per night.

Some historians have shared that the Atlantean’s never dreamed, which I find to be strange for such an advanced culture. Yet, when we plug in the fact that they practically lived in a bubble and did a great deal of metaphysical and spiritual work in their waking state, their need to dream could have been diminished. Some physicians use this to support their theory that people who have vivid dreams or participate in lucid dreams, astral traveling, or astral projection are mentally ill. As we all know, this is a gross misunderstanding of the spirit realm.

Speaking of the spirit realm, when our physical body sleeps, our astral body travels. That’s why dream work is crucial to the life of the metaphysician and spiritual healer. It’s crucial for everyone however, not all of us have elected to be time lords who master the reincarnation cycle in this lifetime. We can learn techniques to intentionally participate in our dreams versus letting our minds take us on a journey. We can put our bodies to sleep, grow our spirits to absorb higher vibrations and frequencies, and  travel throughout the universe through with our astral bodies. Those who master this process can travel to the future and the past and can work rituals and change life experiences to guide future reincarnations. Keep in mind, time only exists in this dense dimension here on earth. In the universe, all things are occurring (past, present, and future) simultaneously.

How much sleep do we need?
The average person eating the SAD (Standard American Diet) needs 8-9 hours of sleep per night. On average, most people get 4-6, so they are extremely deprived of sleep which challenges their healing experience. As you’ve probably already guessed from the Atlantean example, the more your body is healed, the less sleep you need. At the beginning of your healing journey, you’ll find yourself sleeping more. As you heal, the need for sleep decreases. As you enhance your spiritual practices and learn to quiet your mind, your need for dreaming decreases. No matter how much time you need, I encourage the following practices aligned with the circadian rhythms of the earth (since we live here).

Circadian Rhythm

  • Meditate 20 minutes or more each day.
  • Do not eat, workout, or do strenuous or deep thinking activities after 6pm.
  • Drink a cup of a relaxing herbal infusion like catnip, linden flower, skullcap, or sacred blue lotus.
  • Get to bed between 8:30-9:30 pm each night.
  • Sleep in a pitch black room.
  • Remove all electronic devices from your room or at least unplug them.
  • Make sure your bed doesn’t directly face your bedroom door.
  • Place your bed so that your head is pointing in the direction of the rising sun.
  • Cover bedroom mirrors while sleeping.
  • Practice deep breathing prior to sleeping.
  • While breathing deep, imagine your body sleeping and your astral body hovering above, connected by a silver cord.

If none of these techniques help, you may want to consider a parasite and candida detox.

Now that we understand more about the mechanics of sleep, I challenge you to make some beneficial adjustments to your sleep pattern and share how it impacts your health. By doing so, you will enhance the quality of your holistic health and have first hand experience to share with your clients.

Peace and light!

Clever Comfrey

Comfrey

The spirit of comfrey speaks to me daily as I walk by my personal plant. It says, “Sherrice. Grow wild as I grow wild. Grow strong as I grow strong. Saturate yourself with physical and spiritual nutrients, then grow, grow, grow.” I love to hear it in the ethers and I smile when it speaks. This herb will grow in the most harsh conditions and it’s strength begets powerful healing. This green earth plant has mastered the art of growth.

Used externally, comfrey is great for healing skin ailments and bone fractures. I’ve also found it to work wonders on sprains, bruises, and burns. In fact, it has been known to reduce injury related swelling.

I had the pleasure of ingesting this herb internally as part of a formula I created when I eradicated those pesky fibroids in my uterus. It stops internal bleeding and heals up those places we can’t reach. There’s amazing power in that chlorophyll filled gem. Check out my post about Uterine Fibroids to learn more.

So, let’s talk about controversial matters. The wild woman in me likes to defy all odds and dig deeper into forbidden things. I’ve heard the advice against the use of comfrey and I believe my favorite herb in the whole wide world has been the victim of bad research and bad press. I’ve used this herb internally for years and thus far haven’t experienced liver issues, as the studies claim. In fact, I’ve experienced amazing results. Of course, I only use it when I need it. I enjoy an occasional comfrey leaf infusion and get excited about the thickness of the extracts I make. DISCLAIMER – I AM NOT RECOMMENDING YOU TAKE THIS HERB INTERNALLY. That’s just what I do and it happens to work for me.

I encourage you to do some research and learn more about this clever herb that works it’s magic to speed up your healing time.

Magnificient Mugwort!

image

Mugwort is the universal herb for protection and prophecy in the dream world.  It’s a visionary herb, so it’s often used for divination and ritual practices. While it’s great for infusions, some people mix it with damiana and mullein for smoking blends. I’ve even burned it along with or in place of sage when we sit by the fire outside at night for protection and clearing. It’s a nice herb to burn for meditation practice, as well.  Magnificient mugwort also relaxes the uterus to bring on late menstural cycles. This herb is an abortifacient so don’t consume it if you’re expecting a bundle of joy.

Burn, Baby Burn! Or Maybe Not.

burning books

Whew! I feel like a mighty weight has been lifted off me!

Last night, I was interacting online with an awesome sista from Philadelphia who like me, is shedding off her religious skin. During our e-conversation, I remembered that I had hundreds of books in the basement that needed to go. I have given many of them away and thrown many of them in the trash yet there were still more. Over the past few years, I could feel their heaviness yet I wasn’t motivated enough to trash them. Probably because I had invested thousands of dollars into this lifestyle and the library was the only thing left to remind me of it.

Well, in the middle of our conversation, I decided to make that move. There’s no need to keep that religious spirit active in my home for a moment longer. I went down to the basement and started boxing up books. Now the picture above this post implies I burned the books. I’m an author AND I believe in freedom of speech AND my ancient ancestral knowledge is choppy because some stupid jerks burned all of our books SO for this reason, I decided to go another route. I asked my husband to put them in the car and I took them to Half Price Book Store. I pulled up just as they were about to close. I flipped on my hazard lights and asked the young man at the door to help me.

At the end of the day there were 200 books yet they could only take so many according to their criteria. Now remember, I’ve been giving away and throwing away books for the past three years so there’s no telling how many there were when I started. I told the bookstore employee to do whatever they wanted with the remaining books and cash me out for the rest. I walked around and grabbed some books I had been waiting to purchase. After I subtracted the total of my new books from the total they planned to give me, I netted $54.50. In numerology, this adds up to the #5 which just happens to be the life path number for me AND my husband AND all of my children. At that point, I knew I did the right thing and between my third big chop and this move, I felt sooooooooo amazing and free! I did a little jig in the parking lot.

Now, I’m totally free from religious bondage, mind, body, and soul. Plus, I am getting better at letting go of attachments. I’m looking forward to the next phase of my spiritual journey which will involve continuing to renovate my iTunes library. I won’t even tell you how much I invested in religious music that kept me in bondage over the past 15 years.

White Candle Meditation

Slide19

There are many versions of white candle meditations and I wanted to share one that will help you learn to keep your focus and hold the vision to manifest your hopes and dreams. Mastering this technique is not the only way to do this work so if you have others feel free to share with us in the COMMENTS below.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 white candle
  • 1 candle snuffer
  • 1 lighter or match
  • Sage or Reiki energy
  • Quiet space (for at least 30 minutes)
  • Shawl or blanket in case it gets cold

What You’ll Do

  • Use your sage or Reiki energy to cleanse the candle and yourself of the energy of the manufacturer, maker, store personnel, and store visitors.
  • Place your hands on the candle and set your intention for what you’d like to focus on for this meditation.
  • Light a white candle.
  • Sit in easy pose, lotus position, or straight up in a chair right in front of the candle.
  • Focus on the candle flame for as long as your can.
  • As you’re led, close your eyes and visualize the candle flame in your mind.
  • Hold that vision for as long as possible. If the vision fades away, either try to recall it or open your eyes and focus on the candle again.
  • Do this work for 20-30 minutes each day for as long as you’re led. If you’re led to go beyond the 20-30- minute timeframe, feel free to do so.
  • Journal about your experiences as you continue this practice.

Program Your Own Mind

Sherrice Meditating

For the past few years, I’ve been learning about programming advertisers use to get us to buy their products. Basically, the left brain is the conscious mind and right brain is the subconscious mind. It’s the place from where our conscious mind draws it’s energy. What the conscious mind believes, the subconscious mind acts on. People who want to control our actions distract us with repetitive messages and symbols. As I’ve studied this information, it dawned on me that we need to take more control of our own minds. Instead of allowing outside sources to program us, let’s consider programming our minds with our own thoughts, hopes, dreams, and desires. Here are some quick and easy steps to do just that.

1. Create your own mantra.

Spend some time thinking about your hopes and dreams. You can revisit your vision board, journals, or simply sit down and hear your own thoughts. What comes to mind? Jot down those words and create your own mantra. At this very moment, what comes to mind for me are the words free, spirit, love, and abundance. I can take these words and create my own mantra such as “I am a free spirit of love and abundance” or “I am free to love and I am abundant.”

2. Record yourself saying your mantra in an even, positive tone for three to thirty minutes. You can include calming, zen music in the background, if you’d like.

3. Find a quiet space.

4. Put on your headphones and play your recording. Be sure to close your eyes and breathe deeply. Feel free to repeat the recording for as long as you’re led. You can also select some sacred geometry on which to focus during this time. You can even chant your mantra out loud with or without the recording of your own voice.

5. Journal about your experience and see how your life changes over time.

6. Create more mantras and make more recordings.

What are the benefits of this practice?

  • Chanting can impact our endocrine system and impact the hormones that keep us happy.
  • Chanting stabilizes your heart rate, blood pressure, produces beneficial endorphins, and enhances the metabolic process.
  • You’re more likely to tune into the sound of your own voice, as it’s familiar.
  • You’ll learn to love the sound of your own voice, which means you’ll learn to love yourself even more.
  • If you listen while sleeping, your mantra will act as your personal lullaby.
  • You’ll have full awareness and an emotional tie to the mantra so you’ll receive it more readily.
  • You’ll program your own mind with words through familiarity and repetition. Remember, what the conscious mind believes, the subconscious mind acts upon. As you say the words consciously, you’ll begin to believe them and build new neural pathways over the limiting beliefs from your past.

My Journey Down the Rabbit Hole

Have you ever been down the rabbit hole? Each night, I spiral down into this portal to go on a journey from one state of consciousness to another. Just like Alice follows the white rabbit down the hole and ends up in Wonderland, I follow my innate desire to heal and know to an alternative reality. Like Neo from The Matrix, who also followed a white rabbit, I decided to join him by taking the red pill and what I’ve experienced has changed my whole perspective on life.

This journey starts with inner ear sound that spins you to an alternate states of consciousness. I couldn’t  get there with my old thought patterns and mindset as they were like outdated technology based on a patriarchal model that I adopted to survive. When I decided to thrive, it was time to upgrade. The rabbit hole is a Fibonacci spiral which is a feminine symbol connected with the mother goddess. It reflects life cycles, fertility, birth, and a woman’s innate intuition. Through my rabbit hole journey, I learned that answers to my questions aren’t always logical and clear. I had to learn to trust my intuition and flow as I’m led versus always looking for a path someone else created. This has been an eye opening experience because in this uncontrolled experiment I thought I had no examples to point to. To my surprise, I learned the answer was within me. I simply had to command my soul to share what I’d forgotten since I put it there in the first place.

The spirals are associated with the water element, as they are mutable. Through this lesson, I learned to stop standing and start being mutable. Many of my human role models were women who could go through hell and back yet continue to stand. Following their lead, I adopted that tactic early in life. After banging my head against several walls, I now understand that their path isn’t mine. My yin spirit requires a balance of stability and mutability. I was leaning way too far on the stability side and ignoring my mutable side. There’s an old slave spiritual that says, “We shall not be moved.” This song became one of the themes of the Civil Rights Movement. It’s not happenstance that our cause hasn’t been moved much since that time. Unfortunately, we got stuck because we keep trying to use outdated technology of that time for what’s going on today. A trip down the rabbit hole taught me how to be mutable. Not haphazardly but like the river that pours into the ocean. Like the stream that presses through mountainous rock to create a pathway for more water to flow.

As I spiraled further down the rabbit hole, I learned about release. That innate voice within me shared that the tools I used when I started my journey to heal and know would no longer have the same effectiveness. As I grow, so must my ability to live and manifest on my own. Babies require their mothers breast for the very sustenance they need to survive. They wear diapers to catch their urine and feces and shake rattles for entertainment. As the baby grows into a toddler, their needs change. In fact, they continue to change with each year of life. Similarly, I’ve changed. I used to spend my days in church and during that time if my life, it was a fulfilling experience and all my needs were met. As I grew spiritually, I had more of a desire to spend time alone, getting to know myself, and healing. As my body healed, I had more of a desire to deal with my emotions. As I cleared the emotional clutter away, I could hear and see in the spiritual realm. Each day, my needs change and I get rid of yet one more thing that no longer serves me. I add those things that foster my growth and development.

As I prepare to sleep tonight, I know I’ll be back in the rabbit hole. Once I took the red pill, there was no turning back. Like Alice said, “I can’t go back to yesterday. I was a different person then.” Like Alice, I’m off to a place where forever can seem like one second or one second can seem like forever. While I’m there to present myself with harsh realities, I’m also there to present myself with love. So goodnight my loves as I venture to Wonderland. May your journey to wholeness lead you to the rabbit hole where you’ll learn who you really are and what this life’s all about.

Peace and blessings.
